Levada Poll: 12% of Russian public places Armenia among Top 5 of Russia’s allies

Translated some of the results of a nation-wide poll on Russians’ attitude toward foreign countries, conducted by Russia’s most respected independent pollster, Levada Center, on 05.23.13-05.27.13 and released on 06.18.13.  Levada polled 1601 in 130 settlements located in 45 regions of Russia with a margin of error below 3.5%.
Bottom line: Armenia remains out of Russia’s top five allies, for most of Russian public. Only 12% of respondents named Armenia among the top five, while another 8% named Azerbaijan. (Another 3% place Azerbaijan in top five of most hostile nations, but that’s below margin of error. Also note how USA beats Georgia to become most hostile to Russia, though not as disliked as Baltics over the course of the past eight years, but 51% of Russians now have good or very good attitude toward US and 71% believe Russia should strengthen mutually beneficial relations with Western countries. So is Putin more anti-American than his voters?
