There must have been a reason why Putin has gathered hundreds of MPs in Crimea for his speech earlier today, but he has failed to disclose it and,as a result of this change, his address turned out to be an anti-climax. I was left the impression that someone had to hastily assemble a last-minute replacement for an important announcement he was going to make, but he chose not to. Perhaps, the reason was that the convoy had not crossed into Ukraine by then. That non-speech, the convoy; the allegations of Russian APCs and other military vehicles crossing into Ukraine today along with reshuffles in the rebels' command (Donetsk PM and Luhansk PM stepped down as did Donetsk MoD chief Strelkov) and tightening of the noose by Ukrainian troops make me feel Putin may have come to feel cornered and decided to 'coerce Kiev to peace' in Eastern Ukraine. Or was he going to sway in the opposite direction? Next few days will show.
